John Deere 175th Anniversary Poster
GSD&M was working on a poster for John Deere’s 175th Anniversary and they wanted a collection of logos from across the years with different degrees of age and wear. When they first called the idea was to try and get some merchandise from ebay and hopefully get enough to do the poster. Little did they know Adam’s father in law and his family have been farming central Texas land for over 100 years, and most of the time with John Deere gear. They asked if we could deliver at least 20 logos. In the end we came away with over 60 unique John Deer emblems spanning decades of farming.
It was a beautiful day to be out of the studio, roaming the fields with camera and lights in hand, searching for that little jumping deer.

Pecan St Rum for the Ampersand Agency
I have a very soft spot in my heart for Austin based brands, so when the Ampersand Agency asked me to work on the Spirit of Texas rum account I wanted to make something really special. And when I tried their Pecan Street rum I was inspired.
To me these images reflect the gritty old urban Austin that my studio resides in (that 100 year old brick wall is in my studio), and our high brow dining scene served out of trailers under pecan trees strung with lights (I eat my own cooking under said trees in my back yard).
This is the Austin I love, and the place I want to stay. So belly up to the bar.

American Photography 28 – WE’RE IN!!!!
Question: What’s the most exciting email the studio received this week? Answer: The one from Ernie Monteiro of Time Inc. custom publishing letting us know an image we created for Proto Magazine was chosen to be in American Photography 28 along side some really amazing work. Laura Sawicki’s Mixer
Austin’s own Laura Sawicki of La Condesa, was recently named to Food & Wine’s list of Best New Pastry Chefs 2012. To highlight this honor Tribeza magazine asked us to photograph Laura’s stand mixer for their May Cuisine Issue. We’re still finding flour on the floor…. And the ceiling. Yes, my 25 foot ceiling.

AARP Tennis Elbow
You know we love to set stuff on fire here at the studio, so when AARP asked for an image to illustrate the burning of tennis elbow, we were happy to oblige. Robin built the structure out of tennis paraphernalia (rackets, balls, grip tape and racket strings), then Adam got to burn it down.

Grandma’s Furnace – A Home Brew
Jake Camozzi, copywriter and passionate eater & drinker, brewed this damn fine winter ale. He asked me to photograph it for his blog, Leave Me The Oink. He offered me the last few precious bottles. So I took them. And made this photo. And happily drank the last of his beer.

Design Bureau – Metrobilly
According to Design Bureau, the Metrobilly is someone who loves both hunting & fine dining, crap beer & crafted cocktails, they would check their swamp truck with a valet.
DB claims this person is a ‘design-world chimera.’ I really don’t see what the big deal is. They’ve pretty much described every creative I know in Austin.

Texas Monthly – Exercise of Flower
It is a tradition for Texans to force their children to sit in fields of Bluebonnets and to snap their picture. It’s a way to later embarrass them that has been passed down for generations.
Texas Monthly wanted to pay homage to that tradition. They asked various contributing photographers to create a unique spin on the Bluebonnet. But because these flowers are here and gone in about two weeks, we were given the assignment a year in advance.
Then a year later something happened (was it the last space shuttle launch? I can’t remember). Anyhow, it got bumped another year. So here they are, my Bluebonnet studies I have been waiting two years to show.

SXSW – Gary Clark Jr
Last week 1,200 bands officially on the bill for SXSW came to my beautiful home of Austin Texas. With them they brought tens of thousands of other bands, media folks, film peoples, tech types, and scores of tourists in their skinniest of jeans.
Gary Clark Jr was one of the most sought after acts this year. And THIS is his guitar. He brought it by my studio a while back when I was shooting a series on famous musicians’ guitars here in Austin.
Okay, that’s enough name dropping for one day…
